The Associate Director of Marketing and Communications advances the school’s mission, brand, and strategic priorities through integrated marketing, compelling storytelling, and effective communications. This position supports admissions, advancement, and community engagement by managing day-to-day marketing and communications initiatives and closely collaborating with the Director of Marketing and Communications and key stakeholders. The ideal candidate works independently, takes direction well, meets deadlines reliably, and consistently produces high-quality materials at a high volume. They demonstrate accountability and integrity in all tasks, think strategically, write strongly, and thrive in a mission-driven educational environment that demands both efficiency and excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Communications, Marketing, & Brand Management
- Create, write, and edit clear, compelling, mission-aligned content for all school audiences across print and digital platforms, including publications, marketing collateral, newsletters, social media posts, and the school website in collaboration with internal stakeholders and external vendors.
- Develop and manage editorial and communications calendars to ensure consistent, strategic storytelling and timely, coordinated outreach.
- Coordinate email marketing and communications, including template creation, formatting, scheduling, and distribution for internal and external campaigns. Support other departments in their communications projects.
- Support integrated marketing and admissions initiatives to advance enrollment and organizational priorities.
- Capture and edit high-quality photography and video content that authentically represents the school’s mission, community, and events.
- Highlight students, faculty, alumni, and school programs to support enrollment, advancement, and community engagement.
- Collaborate with the Director of Marketing and Communications on recruitment campaigns, messaging, publications, events, and family communications.
- Ensure consistent brand identity across all platforms and materials, including oversight and management of the school's digital presence.
- Manage the school's content management system (CMS), email platform, and constituent data.
- Oversee and execute social media strategy to ensure timely, engaging, mission-driven content.
- Support media relations and external communications to enhance visibility and reputation.
Project Management & Operations
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously with attention to detail, deadlines, and quality.
- Coordinate vendors, freelancers, and photographers as needed to support communications, marketing, and events.
- Maintain organized workflows, files, and documentation to support efficient communications and operations.
Strategy & Collaboration
- Partner with the Director of Marketing and Communications to advance a comprehensive marketing and communications strategy aligned with the school's mission and strategic plan.
- Advise colleagues on messaging, communications best practices, and maintaining brand alignment.
- Contribute to a positive, collaborative school culture and participate in school events, including occasional evenings and weekends.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, or a related field.
- 3-5 years of experience in marketing and communications.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a strong command of grammar, punctuation, and attention to detail. Ability to tailor messaging for diverse audiences and platforms, and to respond to email and other communications in a timely manner.
- Experience managing websites, email communications, and social media platforms.
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator).
- Strong project management and organizational skills; highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to meet tight daily and weekly deadlines.
- Ability to take clear direction, work independently, and drive execution of outcomes.
- Collaborative, flexible, and solutions-oriented team player who thrives in a mission-driven, community-oriented environment.
- Strategic, mission-aligned thinker with strong editorial judgment and compelling storytelling abilities.
- Commitment to equity, inclusion, and belonging in school communications and practices.
Preferred
- Experience in an independent school, educational institution, or nonprofit organization.
- Familiarity with enrollment marketing, advancement communications, and brand management.
- Experience with content management systems, CRM platforms, and analytics tools.
- Experience supervising vendors and freelancers.
The salary range for this position is $110,000 - $125,000 depending on experience and qualifications.
