Academic Supervisor - Lower School English

POSITION OVERVIEW
This position is to provide academic support in our Lower School First or Second grade English classes. This is a full time position and will begin on August 19, 2026. Salary is $25/hr.
Working closely with the Classroom teacher, the Academic Supervisor leads small group literacy instruction, reinforces classroom learning, and supports students’ academic development.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Appropriately supervise children while keeping them safe at all times in school
- Collaborate positively with the English teacher
- Support the teachers' pedagogical methods and the school's philosophy and values of respect, integrity, inclusion, collaboration, and curiosity
- Review the lesson plans made by the English teacher and master the goals and directions before taking charge of a group of students
- Lead the work of some student group activities including guided reading, phonics study, and writing
- Facilitate students' well-being and learning
- Communicate regularly with English teacher about student progress
- Support the English teacher in the organizational and material aspects of the class
- Attend relevant faculty training sessions applying knowledge and skills to daily work with students
- Supervise students during recess and lunch as directed
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Proficient in the English language
- Experience working and reading with children age 6-8
- Bachelor’s Degree or relevant experience
- CPR & First Aid certified or obtain certification upon hire
- Be mentally and physically capable of caring for a group of children alone in a classroom.
- Be aware of the needs of children aged 6-8 and have appropriate expectations
- Be able to kneel, bend, squat, lift, push, pull, and carry loads up to 30 lbs.
- Possess a strong work ethic, be punctual, and have minimal absences.
- All prospective staff will be fingerprinted and submit a criminal background check. Pursuant to the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance, we will consider for employment qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records.
